Pinterest. For posers or genuine curation?

Pinterest. For posers or genuine curation?

Pinterest is grabbing all of the headlines at the moment and with the number of registered users its getting (13 million users in 10 months – OMG) it is no surprise. However I am yet undecided on what to make of the platform.

It’s a little bit like Foursquare. Checking in started off as a bit of fun and you wanted to become Mayor, but after a while you realise that there is absolutely no point whatsoever. Similarly Pinterest is the social network/platform to be using at the moment, but will it last?

I really can see the benefit for creatives (photographers, artists, etc), sellers on sites like Etsy & Not On The High Street & pretty much anyone selling product. For that audience Pinterest could open up huge sales opportunities & from this post on CNN it looks like Pinterest are already all over it.

The site design & the user experience is incredible. Here are a few screen grabs of my boards right now.

My only issue with Pinterest at the moment is that it is all about looking cool. Everyone is searching for trendy things to post and you really don’t get a sense of personality or individualism. That may ease off as more and more users join and people tire of posting perfection. Let’s wait and see.
